Hilton Head sunsets are legitimately spectacular, and the best place to watch one is from the water. The island faces west into the Calibogue Sound, which means the sun sets directly over the marsh and the distant silhouette of Daufuskie Island — all reflected in the water below you. It's the kind of sunset that makes people stop talking mid-sentence.

Several operators run dedicated sunset cruises that time their departure to put you on the water during the golden hour. Most include light snacks and a cash bar, and the pace is relaxed — you're not racing anywhere, just drifting through the harbor as the light changes. Some cruises include live music.

For a more private experience, renting a pontoon boat and heading out on your own is a great option. Pack a cooler, find a spot on the water near the Harbour Town lighthouse, and watch the sun go down. It's one of those Hilton Head experiences that costs almost nothing but feels completely luxurious.
