Departs From

Hilton Head

Daufuskie Island is one of the last truly undeveloped barrier islands on the East Coast. No bridges connect it to the mainland — the only way in is by boat. Once you arrive, you'll find pristine beaches, Gullah-Geechee heritage sites, a handful of restaurants, and an unhurried pace that feels completely removed from the modern world. It's the perfect antidote to a busy Hilton Head vacation.

Getting There

The Daufuskie Island Ferry departs from Broad Creek Marina on Hilton Head Island. The crossing takes approximately 45 minutes. Ferries run multiple times daily — check the current schedule and book tickets in advance during peak season as boats fill quickly.

What To Do on Daufuskie

Rent a Golf Cart

The only way to get around Daufuskie is by golf cart. Rentals are available near the ferry dock and are the best way to explore the island's beaches, historic sites, and art galleries.

Bloody Point Beach

One of the most secluded beaches in the entire Lowcountry. Miles of undeveloped shoreline with almost no crowds — a stark contrast to the busy beaches of Hilton Head.

Haig Point Lighthouse

A historic 1873 lighthouse on the northern tip of the island. The surrounding Haig Point Club is a private community, but the lighthouse is visible from the water and nearby trails.

Mary Field School

The ruins of a Gullah schoolhouse where author Pat Conroy taught in the 1960s — the inspiration for his novel 'The Water is Wide.' A moving piece of Lowcountry history.

Daufuskie Island Rum Company

A small-batch rum distillery on the island making spirits from locally grown sugar cane. Tours and tastings available.

Local Art Galleries

Daufuskie has a small but thriving arts community. Several studios and galleries are open to visitors, showcasing Gullah-inspired art and Lowcountry landscapes.

Where to Eat

Casual American

A beloved island institution known for its casual vibe, cold beer, and simple, satisfying food. Locals and day-trippers alike make this a regular stop.
